WHY AVOIDING PET SITTING APPS IS BETTER FOR YOUR COMMUNITY:

-We're living in a time where we are pretty reliant on convenience when it comes to seeking resources. Looking for a specific product that you'd like to have delivered to your door? Make a simple Amazon purchase. Craving something quick and easy for dinner but prefer to avoid traffic? Order on Grub Hub. You have a vacation that's quickly approaching and forgot to find pet care? Log into Rover.

-While it's great to live in a world with convenience, the downfall to this is that we're loosing touch with our community. Also, when it comes to pet sitting apps like Rover, the pet owner doesn't truly know who they are getting to care for their animals. The truth about these pet sitting convenience apps is that they're owned by multi billion dollar corporations that take on whoever passes a background check as a contract worker. Then said company takes anywhere from 20-30% of their pay. So, odds are these people already have full time jobs and are picking up work from these apps for extra cash.

-Of course there's nothing wrong with that, however, pet sitting is a real industry that professionals take seriously in making their livelihoods. Which means if they have their OWN business/LLC, they are making sure to have ALL the proper credentials and training to best look after your beloved companions and they are passionate about what they do.

-When you hire a PROFESSIONAL pet sitter you're not only getting more assurance that your animals and homes are kept safe, you're also supporting a small business in your community.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A PROFESSIONAL PET SITTER?

-When you're searching pet sitters in your area on google, some important things to consider are to make sure they are insured, bonded and Pet CPR and First Aid Certified. Anything beyond that is a bonus (Examples include: cat/dog behavior training, pet sitter certification, disaster preparedness as a pet sitter professional, etc.)

WHAT ARE SOME RESOURCES TO FIND QUALIFIED LOCAL PET SITTERS?

-In addition to web searching in your area and finding positive reviews, look into other online resources like PET SITTERS INTERNATIONAL: They provide lists of pet sitters in your area who subscribe to continuing education and upkeep credentialing. They also list each credential and qualification next to the small business.

WHAT IF MY CURRENT PET SITTER ISNT AVAILABLE WHEN I NEED THEM???

-When finding a pet sitter you can trust, they typically offer initial meet and greets that are free of charge prior to you having an account with them. That being said, it can be beneficial to have a handful of local sitters in your contacts list. Pet Sitters understand that you need to have options, because we may not be available every time you need pet care. As long as you're supporting local businesses, we're happy to share the wealth! I suggest arranging some meet and greets and find up to 3 local sitters/dog walkers you would like to have an account with and keep in your contacts. That way you can have a list of professionals who have met your pets and know their individual needs. Then you'll be able to find personalized care in a pinch!
